Like, she isn't the only candidate. It's something anyone with the right qualifications can sign up for and there's even a test which she'd have to best other candidates in if she wanted to win. And Yuan Yi has that dog in her. She has what it takes to become the next leader and she seems to be who the story is setting up to be the next leader.

Like, this isn't a monarchy. There is no hereditary position. If her child doesn't want her position, there are many others who would be happy to take it.

Just because someone has talent for something does not mean they have to or want to use it.
From a purely utilitarian perspective I could agree with her mom, but one thing I (as someone on the austistic specrum) had to learn and accept as well is that emotions and therefore people are inherently illogical.

From a purely utilitarian perspective, anyone with talent could do it, not just specifically her, and someone who wants it will always do it better than someone who doesn't want it. From a purely utilitarian perspective, it's always better to look for someone who actually wants it who also has talent over someone who doesn't want it and has talent.
