In the first chapter we literally see him perform the ritual to contact the nefarious shadow. This was just a really disturbing event he experienced.

Damn, i really like manhua than novel. Novel didn't tell much about this village ,but manhua did add a whole scene with more dialogue and monologue ,and it really did build a good atmosphere.

Yeah this was really well done and built up. The unease put into this one instead of BAZONGAS is put together pretty good.

Edit: And also, so this is how he gets the attention of the dark one that's been guiding him. I wonder if this is how he went out. I can't remember if he said how he died from his previous life - been too long since I read the earlier chapters.

From protagonist perspective, human skin book is one of the most outrageous things he ever encountered. He is oblivious to everything.
And in regards to horny, its just manhua artist creative liberties. But they do fit the vibe of original story anyway. Its comedy/parody/homage to Lovecraft and more so to Lovecraft inspired stories. Most similar to "I Am a Cultivation Bigshot".
