It's kanji-to-hiragana conversion puns.
Like Ooshima misreading a kanji character (thus giving the wrong associated hiragana) and Hinata using alternate hiragana to give meaning to kanji.

Ex. 猫画/ねこが = neko ga. Hinata uses alternate hiragana where instead of ねこが he uses ぴようが; piyou ga.

猫画＞描画 (Neko ka - Byouga)

It's not that they use alternative hiragana readings, it's that they confused similar looking Kanji.
