@Priapus-_- He wasn't doing it for a "joke", although there were some comical moments that came of it. He clearly stated that he didn't want to waste resources on armor, because it wouldn't change the outcome much for him, in terms of damage reduction with the enemies he would be facing. He's also playing the game to make lots of money now, so anything he gets that won't help him in his endeavors is just cash to him. Although he clearly gets a piece of armor from the Basilisk, which is shown on the front page of this comic.
