@supermonkey123 that makes a 15 something years old with proper and special education from a modern society able to outsmart a general that's forced to "attack ! attack more ! again !" only from an era where having any kind of education is a blessing.
Also, martial designed to kill in modern times after hundred of years of polishing are hopefully better than rubbish martial art learnt on the field fighting peasants.

By the way, most knights hadn't a chance to fight at all since they got buried under water the instant they pushed through.

Numbers may win a battle. Strategy and tactics will win a battle.
Beside his strategy wasn't anything fancy (tho, building a fortress is kinda... I mean it's hardcore to dig such a perimeter), the general just went with "push with numbers", had he listened to his aide and retreated to organize the troops and come back with some trump cards, the outcome would've been different.

Why does nobody in manga know how wars work?
When the enemy is in a fortified position, like here, you need at least 5 times their numbers if you wish to brute-force it, or even more depending on the grade of fortification.

@BlackHoleEyes i agree, thats probably a big reason that siege weapons where invented, but if you have time on your side then a more effective solution is suround the fortification outside the archers range, cut of any supplies to the fortification and then wait, altough this tactic would recurie that your own side has supply lines to prevent your own forces to starve while you wait for enemy to starve.
