Fair points but from what I (half) remember about shield making is that it's on a frame, I don't believe glue was used, but nails or equivalent fasteners were. https://www.vikingrune.com/2012/01/viking-shield/

Shields are also lighter than what people think, since you have to carry it around with your armor if long marching, or in battle while wearing said armor, so shields are never as thick as we see in games and other media. Historically most shields don't last past 1 battle, and a sufficiently hard blow can shatter a shield.

The shield must have been very badly damaged

If you go to page 4, 6 and 7, you can see the dmg is very visible. Page 7 actually shows the point that our MC is aiming for with his sword, where there isn't any metal along the rim or plate itself. Page 6 on the other hand, bottom panel, you can see that the shield's back is just wood and made of several planks/pieces together.

Since the wielders could just use strengthening magic, weight is of no issue, and they could afford the plate to be thicker.

Not exactly. From what's shown in the manga so far (not sure about original novel), magic isn't something that everyone is capable of using, not even martial arts magic. If that was the case, warriors such as Kuro from chapter I don't remember (the guy who split the ground) would be much more common, among mercs, adventurers and professional soldiers. And even assuming you have strengthening magic, you'd still need to continually upkeep the magic to be able to use the armor and shield together, and you'd have to keep using that magic while transporting it on the march.

That being said, the shield already looks pretty thick, though again, still made of multiple pieces.

@botodopo how about you learn to read the section your name was tagged next to? Cause it does involve you smartass.

Trust me when i say, this is one of the few manga's where its better then the WN.

The WN makes you rage...
The author likes to write like chinese wuxia in the fact that he likes to repeat every line over and over again and over detail the most stupidiest shit when it only has importance in that single chapter.
He will go into detail about people's feelings and let you know about it in EVERY PARAGRAPH like we are mentally challenged and need to be reminded.

The only reason why i continue to read it is because if you bypass the bullshit fillers, and it has more fillers then Naruto had even, then it has a interesting story and plot.

@encoreblade
The civil war was originally about Duke Gerhardt trying to take over the kingdom at the king's death.
However the princess didnt like that, being of blood and decided to split the country up in a civil war.
The Duke went on pretense that he had an illegitimate daughter of the king, that he would rise to queen.
To hide her, Gerhardt had the Guild commission Ryoma to a protect mission while feeding the princess faction false info that the one in the carriage was the illegitimate princess.
This is what dragged Ryoma into the war. He could not just run and ditch the situation as he would be branded by the Guild and there goes his livelyhood.

Hodram is the Captain of the knights. The head general and Elena's replacement so to speak.
He slaughtered Elena's family to take her position.
Originally he was in the princess faction, but later on changed to Gerhardt because he realized he would not be able to control her and become regent.

Elena was the war goddess and general before Hodram.
She went into retirement because she lost her family in political bullshit, and realized she didnt want anymore of it.
She only had one thing in her mind and that was to kill Hodram.
Ryoma made a deal with her to come back into politics and help lead an army if she was allowed to get her revenge.
She does not kill herself, and Elena is one of the few allies Ryoma has in that shitty princess's faction.
Infact she even states if it came down to it, she would allow Ryoma to kill her if she had to go to war with him, because she owe'd him that much by allowing her to let her family rest peacefully in the slaughtering of Hodram
I think this is where ur getting confused.
You can really think of Elena as thinking of Ryoma as her adopted Son.

In a world where strengthening magic exists and paranormal powers would mean armor would have to be thicker and stronger to save the user from attacks. Ain't no way some katana could cut through it. Don't think that katana could cute even an inch deep into the shield before breaking, a scimitar would have a better chance, same with a leaf blade as you get the same kind of cutting power as a katana and scimitar with the strength of a broad sword. They should have at least gave some bs about items from other world get strengthened in transfer along with Ryouma learning a bit about body enhancement

So this is basically the calm before the storm, no? Everything ending kinda smoothly and cleanly ( other than the obvious dead bodies that happened with war ) I mean especially with that shady deal the dumb ass princess made

Also, lloll fucking fun people fighting about what/how shit happens in these kind of manga

I don't know why literally nobody considers the possibility of the katana having been enchanted.
Also, its a "Tower shield", so even if I like you argument, the Katana having enchanted, and the shield+armor 's durability lowered after being hit by a fucking magic thunder explanation makes more sense to me.

@Denker-Bosu yeah, I agree. Well, even without enchantments, he did go at the kink in the shield, making it easy to slice through it since there was a point of structural weakness. The hand slicing is also real, since it seemed he was cut at the joint between the two pieces of armor which is the weak spot. Anyhow, him saying it would be impossible with his blade is true, since the katana is more designed to have a sharp wedge blade to focus all the strength at that single point.
I would've joined the faction calling bullshit if it weren't for all those conditions, especially if he cleaved through plate with that blade.
Still, a better single-edge weapon would've been something like the scimitar or a podao in that matter. May not have the full sharp wedge point, but would have the necessary mass behind it to make that feat with a smaller crack in the shield.

Damn this is garbage. Author shouldve stuck with adventurers guild shenanigans instead of getting into politics. Everyone is incompetent, unlikable, or flatout boring.

I'd rather we stick with dungeon farming and gaining ridiculous new powers every chapter
