Powers went out of control, as did her desire for Snu-snu. Dad's pelvis wasn't up to the challenge.

I think she's just a classic controlling parent that's trying to live vicariously through their child. She didn't want to be a Yokai and instead wanted to be a human so she's trying to forcibly have her daughter be human.

I think mom is a little less malevolent than that. The read I have is that she is trying to protect Yanchiru from being hurt, and not fully appreciating the damage keeping her in a cage is doing. She doesn't want Yanchiru to suffer like she did, not realizing she's just making her suffer in a different way.

I think especially since it looks like dad passed away (maybe between 6 and 7?) her desire to protect her daughter, her last reminder of her husband, makes her a little short sighted.

So the mom knew her abilities only work based on confidence and tried to make her always be unconfident about growing. And she seemed to have done it because... maybe dad's death has to do with losing control over this ability?
I don't feel the same hate others here do about her but yeah she fucked up (I think she genuinely only wanted Yachiru to not be confident in specifically just growing but instead destroyed her confidence in herself entirely and she didn't even realize)
