That or she is a descendant like what the ithers have said. The thing is, right from the start, she has been calling herself Hasshaku-sama and that she's a yokai and at all that.

So my guess here is that she is a descendant but as she grew up and found out how people changed their view of her species, she's now having self-doubts if she is Hasshaku-sama.

Or that she is a different type of yokai who can change her size based on how people view her/how she feels. But since Hasshaku-sama is the only yokai that fits her description (ie large lady that you want to be crushed by), she now thinks that she is Hasshaku-sama. Then maybe as the tests happen she slowly realized "wait, what's happening to me doesn't really fit Hasshaku-sama, am I really that type of yokai?".

Idk, but those two scenarios do come to mind. She may or may not be Hasshaku-sama but the legend does have an effect on her or atleast thats what the author wants us to believe.

So THIS is what it was building up to! That was a really nice conversation, seems I guessed correctly that the author was going for Yachiru not valuing herself too much/being too used to being seen that way but didn't expect it to turn towards Seiichiro doing the same about himself. Happy with it!

Also, who is the author trying to fool? Seiichiro literally couldn't care less if she is a yokai, a human, a half yokai or whatever else at this point, she is literally the walking embodiment of what he likes most AND she is super nice! Peak.
