I do kind of like this version better because it makes more sense for them to be crustacean-like, but some of the frames seem a bit off. Can't really tell why though...

Oh, im glad im not the only one that thought so. The concept and the designs are good but the colored art had moments where it looked a bit uncanny. I don't wanna accuse it because it's hard to tell nowadays, but might it be AI? Maybe its just some off-colored lighting?

The author has a very peculiar style and is openly using AI tools to create those dojinshi-like stories.
I don't know how familiar you are with his work but his style always carried some realisticness to it, even before AI.
Hope this helps understand better!

I agree! I just wanted to share the original work first before moving on to this colored version.
It is basically a copy and paste of the 2023-2024 version with the change of the character design and some dialogs.

Yeah the artist doesn't hide their use of AI for the base image that they paint over but it's particularly noticeable with this one. The girl's bags keeps changing from purse, dual messenger bags, backpack...

Alot of bad photobashing and a lot of reused face expressions. Using the same face four times is crazy lol. The bad photobashing forced the poses to be a lot stiffer which causes less dynamic poses and the hat and clothing not lining up correctly with the body. Not to mention the flat lighting which causes lack of depth. Maybe there is AI being used but he is being controlled by his tools just by looking at this work. With or without AI

All for AI to streamline the process but being controlled by the tools is an apt description. If you're using it as a crutch to slop out content as fast as possible you shouldn't bother creating at all. Mindless tracing is not creating anything new. That the artist failed to use his eyes to notice her bag and clothing changed every panel maybe should reconsider making art.
