on one hand, it doesn't sit right with me to pay for a digital copy. it's all too easy to forget about it once you've read it. not to mention with the copyright issues popping left and right nowadays, there's non-zero chance of "your" purchased content to be blocked. This is especially the case for those wanting to pay for the official releases, but not being in a country they can legally access them.
That's the unfortunate case for several of my old haunts too.on one hand, it doesn't sit right with me to pay for a digital copy. it's all too easy to forget about it once you've read it. not to mention with the copyright issues popping left and right nowadays, there's non-zero chance of "your" purchased content to be blocked.
on the other hand, there is a limit to the amount of title that can be published in my country's book store. and sometimes if it doesn't have enough sales, the local distributor will just stop publishing.
Given the grey area that fan translations reside in and the zero-sum stance of a lot of Japanese publishers...
It doesn't help that even where you CAN buy official digital copies of series they're almost universally garbage. Bad censorship, outrageous prices for digital copies (that might disappear at any moment!), you can't share/trade/sell your copies, stupid micro-transaction bullshit, etc.on one hand, it doesn't sit right with me to pay for a digital copy. it's all too easy to forget about it once you've read it. not to mention with the copyright issues popping left and right nowadays, there's non-zero chance of "your" purchased content to be blocked.

damn, I wish I could afford to buy physical. There's a couple series I'd gladly buy the fancy sets of lolThat's why I started purchasing physical books. I see no point in buying a digital copy. You literally get a worse experience than torrenting the whole series, which you can do whatever you want with.
Though, at the same time, I do but my games on Steam instead of pirating, since it's generally a better experience. Gabe was right, it's a service issue.
And this is part of why I started learning Japanese. The other part is that I hate reading Spanish translations, even if they're good. Everything just sounds off to me. English is a bit better to read, but Japanese translates even worse to English than Spanish...in my opinion.
So, with those thoughts in mind, I started buying directly from Amazon.co.jp.

Shipping is about a third of the total price (when buying at least around 15 books at once), though I still consider it worth it from a collector's perspective.
Books are actually the only thing I consider worth collecting. They have a function beyond just looking good on a shelf. And they won't become obsolete like VHS tapes and DVDs.
The only issue with importing Japanese books is that nobody around me can read them, so I can't have the typical "I'll lend you this book and we can discuss it later" type of situation with friends.Considering moving to Japan just for this.

nice collection btw
Personally, what would work best for me, is a sub model.
I don't have not want to own garbage isekai slop, and most manga these days don't even finish. They're just LN ads that get 50 chaps max, why pay for ads? Fuck that.
So, at best, I'd consider paying for access. But even then, they always find ways to make everything inconvenient, so, again, fuck that.
I just wanna say, looking at that picture, this is why I'm extremely reluctant to buy physical.
I hate hoarding physical goods, I want my house to be as empty as possible, and books are sentimental objects that can easily be hoarded, and you're liable to never revisit, while paying a premium to shuttle them every time you move.
My dad still has doezen of boxes he did not open, after moving to his last flat.
So happy to see more fluff monsters added to the story. I guess I worry though that there isn't enough connective plot tissue here. That said I'm happily reading every update. Thanks for the update. Great job with the translations.

yep. but at the same time, author would need a steady sales to finish the manga. It doesn't help that even where you CAN buy official digital copies of series they're almost universally garbage. As an example on the price thing: Buying enough points to "permanently" keep the entire Seven Deadly Sins series would be about $216 USD worth of points. I could buy physical copies of the entire series for around $252 USD on amazon right now and I wouldn't have to worry about any of their bullshit.
