I mean it's nice that he cares for her and all, but this is perilously close to some of the more overtly rapey justifications you see in some sketchier manga.

I think it’s less of a “you’re asking for it dressed like that” but more of a “there are definitely creeps out there and they’re still going to be there whether you like it or not so it’s just a good idea to put yourself in less danger”
unfortunately really common in japan where women dont wear anything short or shows “a lot” of skin because there are a lot of creeps so its kind of expected for women to dress conservatively instead of men to stop saing women

I was about to ask if this is only a common manga/anime trope or if it's actually a real thing in 2023 Japan? In either case, it's teaching men something awful from an early age and putting women in even more danger. That's kinda fucked any way you slice it... and it's always portrayed like women standing, sitting, just existing outside minding their own business (or even accidentally glancing) is apparently an invite for advances at best and sexual harassment/assault at worst.

Creeps will still creep whether you're exposing some leg or completely covered.
Yes but said creeps are generally more creepy towards those dressed in their eyes “more provocatively” so while you are right in that there will be some that do it anyway it is still a better idea to mitigate as much danger as you can
