When you quote it like that, it does sound stupid. In context though, I think it makes sense. He's saying 'Relive' doesn't whisk someone out of the dungeon just before they die, the person actually needs to die first. So he's actually killed someone, even if that someone got resurrected right afterwards.

Whilst Yukiji may not be the best at staying on-model for characters, they do consistently do something I rarely see elsewhere: Their towns are actually TOWN SIZED! 99% of the time you get the big reveal for "the great capital city of whatever" and it's just a fucking podunk hamlet with a wall around it that somehow has 100,000 people packed into the rafters or something.

since they fully expect to only operate as a team, you'd prefer specialization. If this was an isekai or something and he was thrown into a world of monsters with a lot of uncertainty and generally operating on your own, you would want to be a generalist so you could adapt to all the unknown situations or when things go wrong. However, they're doing this in a controlled environment for sport. So, you could just leave tasks to whoever has S rank in them.

I think they wanted to put emphasis on the fact that they still experience a very painful death and then wake up outside. So the guy still has the full experience and memory of being cut nearly in half.

If you have a party where one person's attack is S, another's healing is S, yet another support is S, then when they work together, the synergy is stronger.

A specialized party synergy is stronger vs a single, strong opponent than a party of heroes. You also need to take into account that S-rank specialists have some wild traits, not just stats.

But a hero is obviously stronger in a duel against any single member of the specialized party because he can defeat stronger attack with healing and defense, and defeat strong defense with attack and support, etc.
