in YuYu Hakusho the MC was a fighting maniac who died *when he wasn't supposed to* and ends up REVIVING in his own body with spirit powers and learns there were always spiritual/magical worlds connected to earth all along and he just didn't have the ability to sense it before
this guy seems to have been peaceful but scary looking and then just died (no mention of if it was actually meant to happen or not, but it WAS recorded properly which implies either intended or at least a more live and let die style of divine management than YYH) and is getting sent to REINCARNATE in an entirely separate world that happens to have spirits and magic
pretty much the only things they have in common is looks and that their first deaths occurred while saving a kid from being run over

Even if it's misunderstood personality issue, he sure acts like he is genuinely it, there's a lot of people with "scary" exterior but if you're rotten, you're rotten on the inside.
