Personally I appreciate you having some standards even in cases like these.

Unrelatedly, it's genuinely a good idea to check if the potato cultivar you're using works well for the kind of dish you're making. There's a bewildering array of varieties with quite different traits. Personally I use yukon gold for soups and curries and they work perfectly for my taste.
