Ngl, I would have prefered if the granny was a bit abusive and forced her to eat, at least the child would grow up being healthier. Picky children need to learn to eat what they don't like otherwise they may develop eating.
honestly from how the story is framed, it doesn't even seems like she's picky, it feels like there is legit something wrong with the food and she just doesn't have the heart to tell her grandma.

seems like a waste versus just giving it to some rando classmate or even a homeless person

The kid certainly won't live as long as the granny if that's how she plans to keep eating her whole life.

apparently you can buy full on bentos at most konbinis but idk how good for you they are altho tea and some basic bread seems like it'd be common in high school or so/idk if time for full meals. it does feel like we're missing context since she is pretty slender (but not anorexic looking?) as opposed to slightly chubby

bad cooking aside, i think some ppl don't seem to be picky in some stuff based on how common the ingredients are/i've never seen any foodie animanga/live action series where it's like "can i have this, leave the onions off" or so unless ppl are too polite about it in restaurants compared to making something for themselves at home (be sucky if you grew up hating the classic staples of ur country's main dishes tho)

tho i feel like around that age some kids would be selfish/shameless and like 'gimme money instead'

it is concerning if even the smell makes her wanna vomit, the teacher didn't say anything but maybe she's just older and slightly demented to prep the food properly or so?

apparently one of the hashtags on pixiv is 'nanikorekanashii'/what is this pain so it's def supposed to be bitter? tho the summary mentions a remake so idk if it'll be longer/serialized/more POV/backstory

https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/55536574 found this on their pixiv with a similar title so
maybe they're gonna do an anthology/similar theme with diff charas, maybe this one is her classmate or so

@imitationcrystal https://mavo.takekuma.jp/viewer.php?id=483 will you do this version too? tho other than the main girl's design and a few extra pages idk if much diff

I briefly considered that, but I dismissed the idea. She's eating junk instead. She selected and bought that stuff herself. It means her body is accustomed to the sugary mess, which makes real food taste bad in her mouth. I live in North Europe, where MSG isn't worshipped like in East Asia. Many years ago more and more people became concerned about the fact store-bought food was saturated with added MSG, which made kids too used to it, so that when they ate home-cooked food, it tasted like nothing in their mouths. Eventually added MSG all but disappeared over here, often replaced with proper seasoning. I reckon this kid just didn't want to eat granny old-fashioned food because her friend circle didn't eat such either, and she ruined her palate.

She's not rotten, though, and she regrets what happened. But peer pressure is dreadful among teenagers.

Looked into it earlier today, apparently it remakes this story (maybe as the first chapter), but continues onwards and tells more stories about this grandmother & her grandchild. I'd maybe consider doing it if I got my hands on the raws for the whole volume & had the opportunity to read it.

So, one of them has a problem, either the kid has some dietary/mental issues that make her nauseous to certain food. Or granny is unwillingly (since she changed the food once she noticed) doing something to it?.

I remember i had the displeasure of smelling stinky tofu, "stinky" does not describe that vile thing properly, and you eat the stuff?!, a guy i knew ended up with serious stomach issues when he eat the stuff.

Probably dear granny is cooking in some old fashion leaving the food with a strong flavor?

I'd like to question that bit on "proper seasonings" you got there, cause msg is pretty proper. It's actually less toxic than table salt.

Junk food aside, i feel like i saw a foodie jdrama where they said that some foods are supposed to be bland (or at least, not as heavy on flavor on purpose) but i'd think curry/hamburg steak/anything with meat in it would have natural flavors even if it needs a bit more salt/pepper (altho i've never had JP rice specifically other than like egg fried rice i don't think i'd like plain steamed rice by itself without a bit of potato/meat)

isnt the girl just have some kind of ED? I thought it was kinda obvious to me. Dont know where people getting the granny is a bad cook or that the girl is just picky came from. Her ED is serious enough that the teacher at school notices it

she's still eating some things even if it's from the store versus just refusing completely (versus mooching off her friends) maybe it's an autism/texture thing too which might fall under an umbrella of some EDs where they literally eat only like the same 2-3 things each time , there was a small plot in the Hoshi-sensei manga and the she loves to cook/eat where a chara had anxiety about eating with other ppl /being watched

This reminded me of a news segment about a mother who fed her kids cookies and cake for breakfast because "it was all they would eat".

Looking at one of the lunches the girl threw out, white rice, fried eggs, tomatoes, cucumbers. In that the fried eggs is something that could be cooked incorrectly but the white rice came from a rice cooker and the tomatoes and cucumbers were raw vegetables. If that makes the girl vomit and the only thing she can stomach is anpan (sweetrolls) and lemon tea drinks then there's something seriously wrong with her.

It came off like an eating disorder to me, but I'd prolly have to re-read to see if there's anything I missed
