It actually makes sense nothing happened if you look into the novel:

- the original novel started in 2017

- Kodansha got the rights for it and the light novel started in 2019

By the time a lot of series get light novel the web novel is already finished, so I don't think it's a question if it's bait or not, but rather that the story basically barely started, it not being romance also makes such development even slower

For some perspective, light novel started in February 2019, it's almost 7 years old and it only have 5 volumes, I honestly don't see the story ending before at least 10 volumes, if it doesn't go for way longer

In short? We're probably years away from any actual romance

Also, I don't think it'll stay at just bait, like, the author pretty early made very clear that gay marriage is a thing in-univese and people are totally a-ok with it, not only that, but it's pretty clear that Ren, Alisa and Lily absolutely are attracted to each other

Honestly? I would be surprised if it doesn't end in poly for them, the author pretty clearly and openly paved the way for that :v

And just in case anyone is curious about the manga, it's at 28 volumes right now, so we still have another 5 volumes to ge translated, I suspect they're purposely taking their time with the story so more light novel material can be made meanwhile
