Okay, everything else I can understand, but what? Why couldn't he watch the fireworks with her? Couldn't he just change into some casual clothes and sneak out for an hour to watch with her in her room? Say he's going to practice walking again, or needs to use the bathroom, or even say he wants to visit a patient. Hell, even her mom, a nurse, knows, surely she could've helped him pull it off. If he truly cared, he surely could've found a way, so I don't get how he thought it was impossible.
