man, AnY is so good
Wth the priest come invading the family's place? But too, the heck, burn them alive? I know the prince wanted to keep his promise, and for a wairror thats nothing I guess, but still w h y
I like soo-won, the he's "the best wrost" to me, even though he tried to kill Yona and all
I guess even knowing he dad's doing, he still admire him. The dad did bad, but not with bad minding; though i dont think he is conniving with his doings
Yonhi's clan history mentions having been the rulers after the Crimson Dragon king passed, but somewhere along the way the ruling dynasty was usurped. In all likelihood the usurpers are Yuhon/Il's family from generations ago. If anything, the priests are genuine and have probably been serving as an independent authority since Kouka was first established. They probably survived because the usurpers needed a source of authority before the commoners. That's why they don't see themselves as servants of the royal family, but something nobler. It makes sense that they assisted the Dragon King's descendants and remembered the bloody history. As a devoted servant of the Crimson King, the High Priest has probably heard of the story passed down through high priests, dreamed of the day the rightful bloodline could be restored, and wanted to repay them for their bloody past/bring them back. The clan that clung onto a lineage of greatness were overjoyed to have been validated all these years and to have gained a sense of purpose. Instead Yuhon murders the only people with the ability to restore their clan to power in the most brutal way. What does that look like to outsiders? He isn't shy about admitting he has always wanted to eliminate the priests as political rivals. Meanwhile he marries one of them to solidify his legitimacy. I won't deny he truly loves Yon-hi, but it seems like he has other motives. Il certainly seems to see it that way.
Yonhi's white lily persona and willful ignorance really bothers me. She seems to take no responsibility for what happened. Even though she's said pretty words she also lived 10+ years in happiness never considering anyone else and says she's willing to meet them halfway?? What does that even mean for someone who escaped total annihilation with a mutilated face? Also she's 100% fine with Yuhon's violent tyrannical behavior. That means she too makes looser moral allowances. I don't mind if she does. Everyone has different moral codes, there's no reason to impose yours. BUT she's so adamant insisting she's this sweet, innocent, and benevolent saintess. Her trying to enjoy the best of both: the gains of a peaceful life hundreds of innocents died for including children and being treated like a pure lady just pisses me off
Whomever says to not hate soo won, he's being as violent as his dad lol. Also i haven't seen anything that shows yona's father being as bad as his brother. Y'all on some shit.
I don't think Yonhi was fine with all this sh*t. She regreted everything but she was scared of the man she once loved. She only faked her happines for the sake of her child, Soo Won.
@Senros nah the one at fault is the original fake royal family who kicked out the actual royal family and killing most of them resulting in them hiding.
I assume they are also at fault in the dragon’s village to go into hiding most likely abused the dragon’s power until it resulted in them also hiding the same with the actual royal family.
@snowyang26 finally someone who gets it and all this people assuming church in manga = bad they were bad to begin with.
so, what I'm getting is Yuhon killed all the priests for the sake of his "love". Yonhi who realized this was too scared to say anything, but then she meets Kashi (who married Il and definitely has become traumatized by the couple). I'm just going to take a guess here, but, child soo won (he's really young here so he obv doesn't know anything) goes on to tell his father (the monster) about the meeting. Sooooo, upon hearing this, he possibly tries to kill Kashi because she knew about Yonhi's bloodline. But Il realized this and somehow or the other killed or was blamed for Yuhon's death.
Yuhon was the real monster and Soo won is following his footsteps. The fact that he killed Il, tried to kill the princess, and framed his best friend (Hak), and called it "for the nation" screams monster in the making to me. No matter how much anyone justifies Soo won's actions, he doesn't deserve Yona's forgiveness (or Hak's). He's smart, he possibly have known what happened between his father and Il and still decided to follow his father's footsteps.
This chapter is quite interesting and gives more questions.
While reading this chapter I noticed two things:
1) in chapter 161 Iguni (Tae won and Kyo ga's mom) mentioned that she knew Kashi (Yona's mom). Also by her attitude we can assume that she is quite distrustful towards Soo-won. If we add what we learned in recent chapter, then we can conclude why Iguni didn't trust Soo won and was more supportive to Yona.
2) I wonder if Kashi isn't pregnant in this chapter since age gap between Soo won and Yona is about 3 years. 🤔 There isn't even clearly stated how old Soo won is in this chapter.
(btw. I am sorry if you spot any grammar mistakes. English is not my first language)
I wish readers would be more observant and not see things as black and white and be so biased towards the characters while ignoring some parts of the story... (yes, including the translators with their TL notes)
As there are more things than saying Yunho or Sonwoo is purely evil. (And no, neither are my fav characters)
Both Yunho and Il are not meant to be the king. One is a violent war maniac that could be a tyrant anytime, and one is a religion fanatic that would doom the country into fall.
(If war broke out in Kouka and people died because Il doesn't want to fight, some would say he essentially killed them indirectly)
From what I've seen, Soowon's alignment is probably a lawful neutral. Hak is chaotic good, Yona is neutral good.. Yuhon is neutral evil, while Il...heck if I know, lol. Has anyone ever wondered what are their d&d alignments? It helps on removing your excessive bias on some characters and understanding them instead.
With how bad Kouka's state under king Il's reign is, and how little time Suwoon has left to live, killing Il is the quickest path to restore Kouka.
Remember how he truly likes people and the citizen of Kouka. His main priority was to make his people happy, which is to stop the suffering of Kouka and make it strong enough to not be attacked by their neighbors. Although revenge was also one of the reason, it was never his top priority.
He knows that he's not the rightful king, he never cared about his status, but if that's the only way to safe Kouka, then so be it.
(This has been hinted a lot from the beginning, so saying this is Soowon's redemption arc is not really it guys, unless you're just too dense for it if the author doesn't spell it out for you)
Does that mean Soowon is a good, flawless king? No. He has his sins and he knows, yet again he doesn't care if it's for the greater goods. He knows he's going to die anyway and it seems he believes Yona could continue the reign after seeing how she has matured.
Even Yona admitted Soowon is a better king, no sides in his country are sacrificed for his reign, except her side.
There are no perfect kings, if there is then it would be god. But like it or not, currently Soowon is one of the greatest king in Kouka's history, besides maybe king Hiryuu (who's actually a god), and Yona would be a better king than Soowon after he's dead and she has surpassed his knowledge & wisdom.
@felleccha
King Il is not a religious fanatic though, and the priest is not bad.
I dont know why you question king Il's judgement by stating his a extremist or fanatic. Maybe he does kill he's brother out of grudges but that is different matter.
Maybe you have some kind of bias on religion since you think all religions in real life is all bad.
When is it uploading ? TT
Either way I’ve been addicted to this manga to the point that I didn’t realize it’s the last chapter so far, the story is extremely interesting, I’ve seen some people saying that soowun is hated among the fandom hm I’m not sure if it’s true but isn’t that the charm of an antagonist, I neither hate him or any of the dragons, nevertheless I find him interesting he is such a complex character that I really want to understand more throughout the story, also
Spoiler:
|| I think that Yona’s father was so jealous of his brother, it’s not only about religion, his brother is trusted to get the throne and also he got him a wife or a descendant from the crimson dragon, her father might’ve felt hatred after witnessing how his brother was killing the priests I probably thought he doesn’t want him to foolishly bow down to priests aside from his wife and her blood, either way yona’s father’s jealousy and hatred and love for crimson dragon got him to marry a priestess that could somehow give him what he wanted A CHILD with CRIMSON DRAGON BLOOD, he definitely didn’t want soowun to become the next acknowledged KING with royal blood.
I wanna see more soowun tbh, i tend to love main characters however antoganist are more interesting to me.
Now I understand why Zeno made that face when he first saw the king, y remember when he told hak that he got a faint of death ? He can read feeling and death, Zeno probably felt soowun’s illness getting to him and making him weaker.||
I desperately want his friendship with Hak to be restored.
im just new so im testing the comment section please don't mind my text
this was a great chapter as always I can't wait until august to see what will happen but I hope we can finally understand how Kashi died and as for Yuhon!!! tbh I wish Kashi and yon-hi were friends,,,,,
@greatninja3 glad you see it the same way. All sorts of things could have happened like maybe King Hiryuu's descendants wanted to be treated like gods and became corrupt rulers, making the current royal family usurp power. Or maybe they just wanted to rule.
I saw someone else's theory about Soowon telling Yuhon about Kashi and Il killing Yuhon in retaliation for her death. I mean it was obvious from the start she didn't die from bandits as Yuhon told Yona. That would set off Soo Won getting revenge and then Yona becoming a victim. It just means that the story is pretty gray and there's a ton of grudges fueling actions. That's part of what makes this story so interesting, so I'd prefer not to interpret it as black and white as some others have been doing
@snowyang26 I really doubt it tbh cause I assume after the original royal family was killed and ran away the new family could abused the original owner of the 4 land (the fire earth water and wind) which are the 4 dragons though I guess it's technically 3 cause the yellow dragon didn't really manage his land which is why they also went and ran away and went into hiding.
their abuse is probably similar to attack on titan
where people who can become titan are segregated and the titan shifters (the dragons in this case) are used in war.
though this is just a theory but for me this is the case that could have happened if you want to connect everything including to why the dragons ran away and hid similar to the original royal family.
@greatninja3 That's one possibility. It could also be that the dragons only want to serve Hiryuu. It's been shown that they're fanatically loyal to the King. So whether they were part of the problem before the coup, or the new family wanted to abuse their power, it might just be they have no desire to help the nation unless it's a descendent or reincarnation at the helm
Late to comment but i have to say it, what an absolute piece of putrefacted shit out of the filthiest stinkiest rubbish dump of rotting garbage Yu-Hon was. There is no excuse for what he did. Il was VERY rude towards him and Yon-Hi and he acted like a fanatic asshole for sure, but the priests didn't invade the Crimson Dragon clan's privacy as bad as last chapter's final page made it out to be. "Dreadful oppression", was that a bad translation or it was just Yu-Hon being the psycho piece of trash he is?
I don't know how this flashback is going to continue but i'm beginning to understand why Il murdered him. Even if Il ended up being a weak king who endangered the country, someone like Yu-Hon, as far as how he was portrayed till this chapter, couldn't be allowed to become king.
@Lux the one oppressing was Yu-hon, not the priests. It wasn't a bad translation, but Evil Twin could have added "at his hands" to avoid ambiguity. Personally, given the context of that page, with a close-up of Yu-hon's enraged face, it never crossed my mind that that sentence could be interpreted another way. Then again, I read the raws.
