the point of this plan is for Van to take over her shelter so he can ambush her once she retreats. Also, that hero is one of the guys responsible for his mother's death, he want's him dead and then some.

keep in mind, Van is Van. He isn't the typical naive protag but that doesn't mean he'll be whatever opposing kind of protag your thinking of.
In fact, Van and Vida's side of the mythology of this world is very forgiving and accepting of people. Van will allow many people who wronged him to join if they sincerely drop hostilities toward him and his people, including the other reincarnators. In fact, that's kinda the reason for the whole schism, Vida accepted the evil gods that turned to their side during the war and Alda rejected them and anything different from the time before the war. Accepting former enemies is just part of how they work.

Not actually the case. Van is quite fond of really muscular guys (more envy on his part). Anyway, it's not like a normal harem protag. Being a guy or a woman in a relationship with someone else doesn't mean you're ignored or nonexistent. Remember, Van thinks of this all in terms of 'family' not as a harem.
