Maomaolei is non-binary, they do not have a gender. I try to use gender neutral pronouns most of the time, but even in the source text, maomao is sometimes referred to using male pronouns, and in some cases, female pronouns, especially in cases where they would be feminized. This has even been done to panhu, after his trip to hell, kulou referred to him (established) as auntie, a uniquely female description, just because she sees qinghuo as more masculine than panhu.
