12 Angry Men,
Shawshank Redemption & Green Mile (both by Stephen King, why nobody mentioned this already makes me question how popular the flicks are)
Inception and Interstellar (Christopher Nolan is da man)
oh, but if you are looking for something lighter to watch, and if you can tolerate low budget b movies:
Wristcutters - A Love Story is definitely my personal favorite. It's not the best but idk... it just gives me this fuzziness watching it. Like I can understand and appreciate Cowboy Bebop to be a definite masterpiece, but I just like Honey and Clover more, that sort of thing.
For TV series, slice of life to be enjoyed together with a meal:
Community (the college one)
Monk
The Middle
...Haunting on Hill House. That one was awesome but you may get spoon stuck in your throat if watching while eating.
