Okaaaay. Why do some of y'all think this is abusive? It's not, amd it's a bit too early to say that it is. This is literally how most parents discipline their children at a young age(especially in thst time period). The mom didn't say she was gong to beat MC ruthlessly. She most likely meant that MC was going to get smacked on the hands or the butt- it stings for a bit but then it goes away.

The parents are quite good from what I've seen anyway. A little excessive but its a story, what can I say?

Read up to this point but I'm not gonna continue. The emperor is too messed up. Run the math. If Empress is 8 at MC's birthday party, and the Emperor is 15, and he marries her when he's 18, he's marrying an 11yo. Then murders her with a shotgun. To even think she can change things by becoming the lady-in-waiting, if you think about it more objectively, it feels very far-fetched and she's putting herself and her family in more danger.
Why not think of a way out for your family? Or maybe actually do share the truth with your family and let them help you. Idk why the mcs always have to be alone.

Also, hitting a child as a form of discipline in modern standards is child abuse in most countries. This isn't the case for this time period, though.

To be a lady in waiting you have to be in the same age group, so there's no way a 8 y/o would accompany a 15 y/o. It's nonsensical.

@luminary, yeah the more fl treats him like some blood thirsty demon even though she's only met him twice, the more obvious it is that there was some deep political manipulations going on in the background, and the emperor had every reason to believe that the dad was committing treason. In those days it was commonsense to not let the direct descendants of a traitor live, so she got the chop too.

She calls the emperor a tyrant for killing the citizens, but the fact that the citizens of the dad's territory were more loyal to him than the crown just adds more fuel to the fire. It could be used as proof that he was raising a private army.

I do wonder why she didnt take the chance to tell her dad about the timey wimey wibbly wobbly when he kicked up a fuss about her not eating her cake. We saw several chapters of it, so the cake went beyond a mere gag.
