Crackpot theory but I'm like 90% sure that Riko-chan is actually a magical girl and has been using Mimi's name as a cover. 己己己己/the Zero Society were sure there was a magical girl at the school named Yamada Mimi and Mimi talked about how "all of Riko-chan's magical girl points were going to her" followed by a shot of Riko-chan sweating when 己己己己 called Mimi out in class.

Nobody can quite make a character simultaneously extremely off-putting and lovable at the same time quite like Ningiyau, huh?

I love this oneshot with all my bones and blood, and I really dearly hope that it can actually become a series. The premise of magical girls, not as paragons of justice or as victims of some secret evil scheme, but instead as people doing some sorta shady, culty part time job is so fun to me. The hand drawn backgrounds are actually astonishing, and I can't ever recall reading a manga with backgrounds so detail and so three dimensional. I love the MC's contrasting personalities and how they can both get weirdly passionate about magical girl stuff, but in completely different ways. I don't know if Ningiyau plans to have full on romance or just subtext, but they are so cute together.

Ningiyau has been doing a ton of work on reference materials for the outfits/equipment/locations and it's nuts how much effort they're putting into the backgrounds when most authors just go with photos or 3D models nowadays.

Looks like next chapter is gonna be taking place at an abandoned hotel.
