In the original (IRL) history- Mehmed and Hurrem were quite bitter enemies. So when the start of this manga showed us that Hurrem loves the Vizier and they even have a child together I though she was changing the story line. HOwever, I think with this development- it looks like after the slight deviation from the real history, she is probably going to bring the story back to historical accuracy
What I really like about this story is how fairly realistic the harem is shown- Since he has an ample number of women to "sample" from- the emperor isn't passionately attached to any one- not even Hurrem. Most of the time the Sultan would not even meet his wives (unlike other novels where the emperor is always seen escorting his love from one end of the palace to another😆) since he would be busy dealing with matters of the empire.
Another thing I like is that the story shows how the Sultan was a conqueror first and perhaps a king later- plus despite the depth of their respective feelings for Hurrem, neither the Sultan nor the Vizier place her feelings/wishes above that of the empire and their own respective hunger for conquest. This is more realistic unlike most other historical/fantasy novels where the "queen" protects the downtrodden and her lover/husbband the king benevolently looks upon her good deeds and helps her when needed. Big thanks to the translators for translating this gem!

@Otaku713 Agreed. I went into reading this manga expecting some sort of orientalistic, exotic harem love story. "Suleiman the Magnificent" had turned into "Suleiman the Bishounen", after all. However, it has been more historically accurate than I expected it to be. The story has its cheesy romance moments for sure, but this is actually pretty realistic. I started to read about that period too only to see that the mangaka did her research. She's showing the harem as a place for power struggles instead of a decadent pleasure garden, which is how things worked back during that period. I'm pleasantly surprised with this manga.

I can't wait to see how the mangaka will handle the İbrahim drama, and how the people who don't know the real story will react to it :)

Same here, I found this one randomly and I was so sure it would be another bishonen king and her marie sue harem exotic beauty, those that you read to fill your husbando quota. I'm very pleased to see it is not like that. It is true that there is romance but it does make sense for a story where being loved by somebody with money and power changes your life (as you can see on this chapter), but it also has time to develop their characters further while showing a lot of details about that era and culture.

Not reading your spoilers because I don't really know too much about this particular part of history so I can keep the spoilers out.
