what do you mean ended?? Happy that they are able to have heart to heart conversation though, I guess it is better than having 1232828 miscommunications. I wonder if the author will continue delinquent x discipline committee soon. Their dynamic are so good.

I'm sad it got axed... but this is a very cute, wholesome, and very satisfactory axe, so I'm not actually that upset. Thank you for the translation, as always!!!

Man, people can no longer distinguish a short story from an axed one.

The story rounded up quite nicely with barely any open threads left. It's just the classic type of romance story that ends once they get together.

The only thing left totally unresolved is the missing father, though since it was mostly told for backstory purposes it doesn't really need more development.

So was this just a bad dream? A funny gag? I don't get it, what was the point?:

I mean, it's fine and all if the series was planned to be short from the beginning, but I think it's hardly surprising that people are shocked and dissatisfied with the story ending at this point. It feels like it was building up to much larger character moments, and had some deep themes and ideas it wanted to explore:

Idk, consider it a compliment to the author's ability to make complex characters and bring up interesting ideas to explore. It feels like a lot more could have been done with these characters than what we ended up getting in the end 🤷‍♀️

Well, of course a lot more could've been done, but you gotta work within the bounds you're given and focus on the things that matter most for the story you are telling.

A lot of things are fine to leave to the reader's interpretation/imagination as long as the main plot is solid.

Did Hikaru's mother really say at some point in her early life that she wished she didn't marry and have her? It's possible. She's sitting in such a posture that I wouldn't find it weird for her to be drinking. Is it just a bad dream due to Hikaru's anxieties? Also possible.

The author only had one volume. I'd say only hinting at deeper themes is fine since the main plot line completed successfully.

We go from seeing the beginning of a twisted relationship that transforms into mutual love without any dark undertones.

I could spend hours analysing this story and pointing out where something was written well and where it was written badly or not explored enough, but I honestly am not that invested in it.

As I said, this story is a 7/10. The possible issues being resolved and the unexplored plot points being explored would just bring it up to an 8/10.

On a side note, the rating system is fecked. Or at least, people don't understand how to rate something properly. They go by what makes them feel good and slap a 10 on it. Seriously, this is ridiculous:

If I came across this before reading it, I would've expected a masterpiece, but this story really is just "good".

Whatever. I've long since learned not to trust the ratings.

One thing I forgot to mention is that there's an argument for not bringing those plot points up if you're not planning to use them. If a gun is on the wall, that gun's gotta shoot and all that.

For example, the thing with Kairi's two friends could be expanded by meeting them in high school and resolving the issue they were avoiding, maybe with Hikaru's help, thus rekindling their friendship.

But in this case, it was only used to explain why she's twisted when it comes to love. So it may end up feeling for some readers that this plot thread is unresolved, like something more should've come from that.

For me personally, this is how I felt when the parent's backstory was told. I thought at the time that Hikaru will end up bringing her parents back together after finding the answer to her own troubles. In the end, that backstory was, for the most part, only used to explain why the mother advised Hikaru against love.

There are a few of these plot points that hint at possible future developments, but ended up only being used for one specific purpose.

Can this be considered bad writing? I don't think so. It's more on the reader for trying to catch foreshadows that aren't there. But I would call it a better-written story if there was more to it.

In the end, I don't remember there being a single plot point that was truly useless, where nothing would change if removed. They just weren't used to accomplish more than one thing.
