The entire set up is kinda dumb. Irene is being heavy handed but what did Asley expect to happen? He enrolled in a magic school even though he knows more any any of the faculty.

While it was definitely blackmail, couldn't Asley call on them for their bluff? Rina and Asley are the best students they've had in who knows how long, being the top two students in their entrance exam and having more knowledge than the teachers really, even if Rina still needs more training.

The school would loss more from expelling these two students than Asley would have for following what they asked, and didn't they say there was basically no trace in Rina's contract? Technically isn't it all speculation regarding her contract?

So their evidence is basically a big assumption. A correct one, but one without physical proof. Only a professional could have altered it and he’s the only professional I suppose?

Why the hell did you agree to them? With your skills in magic, just mind control both of them and turn them into your slaves, or burn the whole dang school down. Moron! They were obviously lying about revealing it in the first place! As if they'd let go of 2 such excellent students anyways! FFS!

@Invader_Retro At this point, I would imagine he'd realized (if he's not a blind moron, that he seems to be) that there is no new things in that school, nor does that school have access to anything like that. Quite frankly, he has a lot more "new" things than the school and all of it's associates have.

@shinsenryuu Yup, gotta wonder why he's being such an idiot in this situation. Now he's literally effed not only his school life, but Rina's as well. Good job idiot. Might as well reveal all of your techniques to the woman and become a slave at this point, seeing how he's such a pushover.

Really hate it when authors pulls this BS out of their asses because "reasons"

Unusual for Asley to be bound by that blackmail, unless he has something in mind to take advantage of.

This story is getting more and more stupid by the page. Please Author, go find another line of work. Especially if all you are going to do is copy every template ever used.

@Siikalahna Exactly. Giving out ANY magic information to the annoying brat of a "sage", is infuriating just by itself. A magician's knowledge is the most valuable thing there is. He is basically throwing around years of research left and right.

>I wish Asley beats the crap out of for holding Rina’s future hostage.
As opposed to an instant expulsion, which they had every right to do.
I get that being blackmailed feels real bad, but you people do realize that Asley was being handled with fucking kiddy gloves here right

I honestly don't understand all the hate for this chapter. Yes, Asley could likely "mind control them both" or "burn the school down". But at that point he turns into a mindless edge-lord protagonist which we already have too many of.

So, I see it like this. He knows full well he doesn't have to go along with their blackmail. He chooses to let them win this round with full knowledge that one day he'll either reverse the situation or win by simply outliving them. Remember, Asley is in fact immortal and may be looking at the situation from a more long-term position than we are.

I mean yeah MC is powerfull and all but last chapter he said he could lose to loli teacher so that means there are many people who are far above them.

Him accepting the blakcmail is also understandable since now powerful people are onto him AND Rina. By himslef Asley could probably survive by secluding himself, but the same thing cant be said to Rina.

I think that when Pochi finds out what happened and why, he'll just point and laugh at Asley again. The fool continues to do foolish things.

so, why tf does he want to be at that school? there is almost nothing he can learn there and annoying little bitch just want him to reveal all his hard earned knowledge just because she ask or she will just annoy the hell out of him, and accepting the blackmail is just idiotic, he could just threaten them to leave and take Rina with him, there is no way that little runt would push any further if he just puts his foot down but the mc is a pushover.

@PrivatePublic

I'm getting the feeling that people were expecting a full-blown power fantasy rampage or something. I don't know why they would though, Asley has been a mild-mannered twat the past 20 chapters.

@zeroxjac

Because he wanted to experience school life after failing to get into school 5000 years ago. Did the manga fail to mention this or something? I've seen this question posted in other sites, which is why I'm asking. Pretty sure the translated novel chapters made this clear.

His pretty much only at the academy for Rina's sake I think. There is nothing in it for him being in the academy apart from living out his school days again. Who knows if he actually values that or not.
But yea, this blackmail stuff is fustrating to see. I'd rather see more of Rina's development

That's not exactly a smart way to win someone over, it'd only work on the surface but they have ruined the trust-building relationship dynamic with Asley with that blackmail tactic... Ideally, they should come up with a win-win offer, Idk what kind of the character both the president and Irene are but if they actually want Asley as their ally they shouldn't have gone that shady route, too bad for them, though the author could always make Asley an actual fool like his title is......
