This story is so odd. It acts like him getting kicked out was the party’s fault, but it seems like no one taught them anything. Apparently, their parent taught them nothing, MC taught them nothing, and the church taught them nothing. Then when the party, knowing nothing, kicks MC out he just fucks off and acts like he had nothing to do with why they’re so unprepared.

Honestly, when I was reading the novel, Zect's character arc from here on out was by far and away the best part of the story. Everything else is just more of the same but him coming to understand his stepdad and find himself in his shoes was great.

It's weird how the author went out of his way to vilify Zect early in the story, only now to turn around and make him appear sympathetic. Why spend all that time making him the bad guy, and making him look like a complete douche, if he was going to just apply the power of friendship and make everything all better? Seems like poor writing.

to be fair, even if you say he was vilified, there's different kinds of bad and a lot of them don't crossover. Just because someone steals, doesn't mean they would kill and all. Just because he was a douche who would go after, what he thinks is, his friend's girl doesn't mean he'll ignore or runaway as a city is burned to the ground nor mourn those who are lost during. These stories tend to oversimplify things but just because someone is bad to the mc once doesn't mean they'll be EVERY kind of bad nor does it mean that they don't have any moral fiber. Just that authors generally forget that part.

I'm sorry why is THIS the most grounded/genuine "come to Jesus"/"moment of clarity" asshole hero/former party turnaround?

Like, I kinda actually start to want to see if these four can get their shit together. If the hero can fully turn their shitstain behavior around and become a competent leader.

And then I'm immediately reminded that none of that matters, because the actual premise of the manga is "you can't cuck me! I'm fucking your moms!" And not long ago we just spent an entire chapter with the MC setting up the pettiest of "fuck you" scenarios back in their hometown. An actual flashbang of a panel that I do not doubt is a pageturn reveal in physical version.

Yeah, it's like the author finally learned how to write a dynamic and interesting character arc for Zect but then just falls back into the usual OP self insert cardboard cutout for Ceres where he has no personality and everything is just handed to him. Nothing Ceres has was earned by him, he was placed into this world with his OP magic and abilities. He lost against the dragon but through some bullshit Deus Ex Machina the dragon goes "Oh well I guess I cheated so here you can have my liver which will make you even stronger".

The only reason the MILFs all follow him is because every other male character is a piece of shit and NOT because Ceres actually earned their favor beyond simply not being their husbands (and actually liking older women, such a high bar). Zect is a dumbass kid, of course he'd be smug and want to kick out someone he would view as a threat to his veritable harem of young girls. Ceres isn't much better, he stole his harem of hot older girls from a bunch of dudes he claimed to "respect". The only reason Ceres gets a pass is because his chosen concubines are considered third class citizens in that society (how convenient for the author).

The irony is that Zect is a significantly more compelling character than Ceres is and yet he's a character we're supposed to enjoy watching suffer as some sort of comeuppance and schadenfreude. I genuinely can't tell if the author just really wants to write a real story with Zect but has to shove Ceres in there to sell books or if they are just that tone deaf and don't realize that characters like Zect who are flawed and have depth are just better for story telling and the trivial "everything always works out" characters you see in typical derivative Isekai are in fact bad.
