So the girl at volume 12 cover is the mage from the hero's party, right? That smile is unfair. Is she trying to steal the heroine role from cecilia? :fml:

I wanna say better late than never, but honestly with all the waiting combined with how open Youki's been about his feelings, it's just felt like Cecilia was leading him on to keep him from going back to being a demon. Their relationship just hasn't really progressed or grown in a natural or meaningful way, and now that they're almost together it feels borderline forced despite being the required outcome of the series. Youki was always obsessed with her, Cecilia's always just seemed indifferent, but despite their screen time together being at least half her scolding him for something, their feelings are somehow requited.
I agree, you could see that with the marriage. She was definitely considering it for a while. Id imagine if she rly liked Youki she wouldnt even give it a thought.. now itll just feel like a "fine ill go out with you" type thing which, like u said, is very forced.

The cliffhanger is painful, but I'm positive we are getting good development out of this.

This cliffhanger is a prime example of why editors that push for half chapters need to be forced out of a job and permanently blacklisted. Right in the middle of an important message like this? Absolutely cruel.
I agree..
however this is on LH, the raws are upto 58.3. Meaning we had no need here for cliffhangers,

Even though them being a couple was always an endgame, i don't think i've ever read more forced romance between the main characters. Other couples had to grew throughout the series, while main couple were always in some kind of limbo: he loves her, she scolds him and nothing more. If she realy loved him she would stop those engagement talks outright and wouldn't play around with MCs feelings, now she comes out as very toxic.

Maybe I'm giving this series too much benefit of the doubt, but since the beginning I've been interpreting Cecilia as a person who wants to stick to her role of a saint and a noble daughter. She may want that role herself more than her parents actually expect it from her. It would mean she never wished to decide her own marriage, and thus she had developed a personality that wouldn't really get swooned. She would look indifferent, like you said. Early on Youki was led to believe he needs to get his act together if he's planning on getting a noble daughter's hand, which is definitely compatible with how I viewed things, as that would be actually boosting his image in Cecilia's eyes, since she's so prim and proper by her own will.

That being said, Celia doesn't really seem like a person who would marry off her daughter to the highest political payoff. But I reckon that's still a sort of default way, as it was all around the world in the past. If Cecilia herself was expecting such an outcome, Celia wasn't pushing her too much one way or another, perhaps hoping Cecilia would actually do something to select a man she loves, on her own. Likewise Celia would definitely assume the man would need to be active about it, to prove he loves Cecilia, even if Cecilia seems indifferent due to her personality and stance.

Honestly i don't get how people can say their relationship doesn't work, have people actually seen how couples work?
The term opposites attract isn't really correct, but it does hint at what it actually means, people compliment each other, cecilia and youki do have alot in common but their personalities fill in what the other's doesn't, youki's playful nature is uniquely suited to cecilia's calm and rational one and both fill a void the other had.
What DO they have in common? Our MC is not exactly a character if you look at the big picture. He is what those around him demand him to be. The ONLY time MC ever showed any kind of agency was when he fell in love with the saint at first sight. Before that, he had been nothing but a guard that never left his post as the demon king's bodyguard (even though he had subordinates). The moment he fell in love with the saint, he threw away whatever kind of loyalty he had for his former boss and allies and let assassins walk in and kill him with little regard for anything else. When Cecilia rejected his advances, he had given up on life there and then, even going as far as allowing her to finish him off. She told him to live for humanity's sake, and to use the power to help her people (BUT ONLY HER PEOPLE, AS SHE WAS AFRAID HE'D BE SCOUTED BY OTHER COUNTRIES IF HE WAS LEFT ALONE TO DO AS HE PLEASED). He even went as far as mutilating himself because she told him he had to look human if he wanted to live among them. The entire premise of this story is that the MC was never "good enough" to please the girl he liked (the only thing he had ever wanted for himself), and his struggle to little by little becoming the "thing" she would like him to be in order to accept his feelings.
It feels like she manipulated a newborn child, tying him to her city, and always holding the carrot just out of reach. The whole relationship always rubbed me the wrong way, and now that they are official I can't say I'm satisfied with the journey we took to reach this destination. But that's just me, maybe some people actually like the way this all played out.

1. Where are you getting this idea he was loyal in the first place? If he was loyal he would've done whatever they wanted in the first place. He was NEVER loyal, he rejected orders over and over again since probably being drafted into the army, I'm assuming he was drafted based on his lack of enthusiasm about going to war. Based on the story he told about himself and his subordinates, he was always passively resisting his own nation's regime by locking himself away and rejecting pretty much every order given to him. I think even the regime was afraid of his power so they mostly just left him alone after failing to persuade him.

You're also missing the big picture of the whole "try to avoid standing out" thing, it has nothing to do the fear of being scouted versus being a reason for war. Nations were mentioned as gathering resources and military power for what's clearly NOT peaceful purposes.

Have you ever noticed this guy doesn't want to get tied up in politics? <-- THIS IS WHY STANDING OUT IS RISKY
He said he didn't kill the Demon King because they'll crown him and force him to lead them instead which he's completely averse to, he just wants to be a chunni cringelord and be with a woman he loves.

2. There aren't many details on their personalities yet, this is chapter 55, equal to chapter 151 and 152 in WN and the latest is 423, we have a long way to go, the start of their relationship and even marriage isn't the end, but basically what the other guy said is right. Yoki is energetic and the type who's better off not overthinking things which Mikana noted, and Cecilia is calm and rational. Both don't seem very interested in politics and spend time doing things to benefit society as a whole, Cecilia pays attention to politics but only enough to help her and those important to her avoid it.
