so is GDS like stock piling their finished work, just to drip feed when a post from someone else drops?
They drip feed when someone's paying to translate specific manga through donation or commission. So they got unreleased finished work on a lot of manga (they have a LOT of projects) and only release when either someone pays, or every 3 months or so as to keep the manga "reserved" for them so other scanlation groups that will do it without donation barrier can't pick up. If other scanlation group does, as most scanlation group work based on released raws - not if they have received donation or not, GDS may cry "oh noez this group evil sniper, breaching mangadex policy on translation manga we already work on" despite delaying their release. so people pay them to release.
This is all allegedly and I may be a sheep, but it's hard to convince otherwise when you see GDS upload patterns. They pick up interesting series, abruptly stops uploading them, then only continue when above criteria are met. Either sniped, long time have passed, or someone paid them to.
I mean, I still enjoy their releases when they do. And I think it's fair if you want to get paid on something you work on. But I guess just don't cry about it when other groups want to do it for free and you're out of one revenue stream then use the forum rules to enforce your profit generation while repressing true fan translates.
Allegedly.
