It stops being self-defense once the other party is either fleeing or unable to fight. Once there is no longer clear and present danger, self-defense can no longer apply.
And again, it's about how THEY would feel about it. Lloyd might be able to, but I seriously doubt anyone else could steel their emotions to actually kill him. That's not self-defense, that's an execution.
