Yeah, you'd expect a dramatic development like getting indebted to a black market smuggler, or having to rob someone to get the necessary parts. An event that puts the character at a disadvantage from the start and sets up an immediate goal to pursue. Maybe this is meant to be more mellow than that.

It's really sad her abandonment issues are acting up, Ao looked really flustered and worried when Touko suggested Ari lives at her place. Ao looks 5 or 7 at best when she was younger, she's likely around 11-13 after the incident. Forced to start adulting at a very young age but at least a good person like Touko was there to help care for her. Ao wanting Ari by her side due to her mother leaving her all alone after her father died, she's scared to lose that bit of warmth Ari gave her even if it was only for less than a day's time.

I seriously thought the armless Ari bit would go on for a little longer too and those arm thieves would come back for more, Avatars are too good of a money to pass up on, especially now that we know Ari's bigtime if she even has parts from THE upper layer.
