Mobile libraries are great for rural communities. I grew up in a small village, and a few times a year we would get a visit, not by a bus but by the book boat. My home county is all fjords and islands, and almost all towns and villages can be reached by boat, so it makes sense. The floating library served my county and the neighbour county to the south, until the county politicians tried to save money by closing it down in 2021. Fortunately many municipalities protested and went together to secure the future of the floating library. They also received a grant from a free speech foundation, so the future seems secured.
I left for university long ago, but I still see this as an important service, especially since the small library at the local school was closed down a few years ago.
Here is our floating library.
