I honestly wasn't expecting Mona to show up this soon. I thought the festival arc would complete before the story looped back to Naoi's family. So, it looks like next volume might step away from focusing on school too much. Things did seem to calm down there for now. Kurumi's keeping Mine's secrets as long as Mine doesn't do anything else, Kudou quit showing up until further notice, and Naoi's been cleared.
Though Kurumi also notes these things and others aren't really resolved. Only on ice. Their social lives at school, Kudou, and Kurumi's mother are all plots that will have to be addressed eventually. Though Kurumi should be careful. Mine was able to successfully manipulate Isanuma, so trying to go against Mine eventually could end up blowing up in Kurumi's face if Mine still has other cards to play. And speaking of manipulation, Mine's flashbacks were interesting. The girls Mine was talking with and about from the start of chapter 28 reappeared and bashed Mine for talking bad about them, when in reality they were talking bad about each other and Mine was only going along with what each of them said. So, it seems like Mine enjoys being around Isanuma because she isn't fake.
Apparently the teacher was lying the entire time about his innocence. "You said you liked me!" Meaning that Mine tried to seduce him and he went along with it willingly, then she got a photo of it and blackmailed him. It's clear she targeted him partially because she realized how shady he was from the start with how he was DMing his students. Interesting how the flashbacks recontextualized chapter 8, which is where the scene of the teacher contacting Isanuma for a date while they were at karaoke was from. And since Mine only started the rumor about Kurumi after being spotted with the teacher herself, it seems it was going on prior to the start of the manga. Since they were insulting Kurumi from the moment of the opening ceremony in chapter 1.
I have to wonder if Naoi's going to lose her part-time job, forcing her to move in with Mona and her mother. Because she skipped work to help Kurumi, then was supposed to cover someone else's shift to make up for it, but then will likely get sidetracked by Mona's appearance. Mona could shake things up with Kurumi and Naoi, since it could very well give Kurumi alot more insight into Naoi's past and circumstances. Though growing up with their mother might've caused Mona to develop some issues of her own, so hopefully Naoi's not about to be dragged into something bad right after getting out of the woods last chapter. Mine's words to Kurumi about not wanting anyone to interfere with the things they love could end up being foreshadowing if Naoi's mom starts trying to use Mona to control Naoi.
No chapter next month due to volume 6's release. Chapter 31/Volume 7 starts off with a bang in June.
*Mine. Mona is Naoi's sister that just showed up at the end.Mona is one scary girl, definitely do not want to get on her bad side. Still, it's nice that she cares about Inasumi to the point that she will blackmail their teacher to protect her.
And Naoi... Man... This girl just cannot get a break, can she? I do wonder how will imuoto react to Kurumi.
The mother was framed negatively since she came back into the story. Naoi even pointed out her mom didn't consider that her father would abuse her again after she dropped off the divorce papers and dipped. Naoi even highlights this lack of consideration for her well-being.I kind of hope that, though I assume Mona (and Mom, by extension) are going to be interfering in Naoi & Kurumi's lives in some fashion, that it comes in a "positive" context, like wanting to genuinely help Naoi out and wanting the best for her and to give her a support system.
The story does have a tendency to put bookmarks into plots with the intention of coming back to them later. Given the series track record, Mine isn't going to keep getting her way. But Kurumi would rather move forward than dwell on the past for now, since she now knows it wasn't personal, Kurumi and Naoi just happened to be convenient targets at the time. Though I think Kurumi would've been better off at least warning Naoi about Mine, instead of keeping quiet like she did. Plus, Kurumi still clearly resents Isanuma for her past treatment of her, so likely thinks she deserves this to some degree.Só they'll just ignore everything Mine did? What a bullshit resolution after all that cheap drama. I hope the next arc is better.
Considering how a lot of characters in this manga so far are manipulative, sociopaths, or manipulative sociopaths, it'd be one hell of a breath of fresh air to have some characters who have something adjacent to a moral compass.I kind of hope that, though I assume Mona (and Mom, by extension) are going to be interfering in Naoi & Kurumi's lives in some fashion, that it comes in a "positive" context, like wanting to genuinely help Naoi out and wanting the best for her and to give her a support system.
Hope you're right... But honestly? I have low hope for this story in that regard. The story does have a tendency to put bookmarks into plots with the intention of coming back to them later. I felt a sense of dread through the entire Mine interaction knowing that it wouldn't be the end of it. Kurumi chosing to deliberately not tell Naoi about it just reinforced that dread. The story does have a tendency to put bookmarks into plots with the intention of coming back to them later.
