This. this comment here is why the IGN 7/10 is a thing. People with such a narrow mind that things are either good or trash. No in between, no room for nuance. That why main stream critics will give mayo on white bread a 7/10 because for some reason they try to appease these type of people. A 5/10 is bland, it is not offensively bad or trash, but it doesn't make you feel engaging reading it.

You want the most accurate review of this? If you replace MC with Jesus, this would get accused as Christian propaganda, boi is pulling miracle out of his ass half the chapter and smiting evil the other half.

Don't take the rating here seriously. They are biased asf. Anything too normal gets buried, anything that has niche fetish stuff gets promoted (since the people into those tags eat it like no tomorrow, and the normies just skip it entirely since the fetish stuff was stated from the start).

Here MC isn't even that bad, I've seen worse isekais (where MC gets cuked, he shares his women, yuri...) with better ratings.

Early on, the hate here was because of the loli wife, but when it was revealed that his loli wife is not a real loli, just another reincarnated grandma who lived her life fully (had grandkids and all that) they moved to another stuff.

This is not even a harem, dude ends with the loli wife and sometimes he beds the empress (something like he's allowed to do her, but they don't have any set relationship stated. He only married the loli wife).

@CoolOtamegane Humans best feature is environmental adaptability. The ability to survive and thrive in any environment. Those who cannot do it perish. Doesn't matter if environmental change is caused by natural or artificial change.
My bros, Its the same with Japanese media, you need to adapt to western normie tide, or perish (ie. suffer bad entertainment).

From 0 to 10 audience score is simply no longer useful when majority of people operate on dichotomous thinking. So personally I have a different system, developed after years of reading normie reviews on MAL and here. Nowadays I am well equipped to safely travel through the tumultuous seas of japanese media ratings done by english speaking internet.

The gist of it is below and you can learn it too.
But beware, for it is arcane knowledge once allowed only for the priest caste and high ranking government officials.

You need to get inside the normgroid mind to understand the credibility behind the scoring. The trick is to consider the score in regards to what wrongthink currently is/isn't allowed, the amount of wrongthinks commited, and if a specific wrongthink was/wasn't trending on social media during the anime run, or manga release. There is also a trap of niche fetish stuff but that one should be assessed in relation to the total number of people who gave their ratings and also @Aurosandro already explained that part.

For example, If its 9 and isekai, protagonist is a female, the story is inoffensive, there is no fanservice, it was promoted on twitter -> actual score is from 3 to 5 (mediocre or slop aligned).
If its 8 and isekai, protagonist is male, there is a harem of loli wives, twitter hates its guts every episode/page is ripped apart when released -> its probably a 10, true masterpiece of storytelling that rivals Count Monte Christo or LotR.
If its 5 and has lolis? Then it can be good or at least enjoyable. An actual 7. W/o lolis it would be absolute dogshit unless other offensive wrongthink themes are present.

And so on and so forth. Yes, It requires the social savvy not unlike navigating the court politics of ancient chinese imperial court, but it can be learned nonetheless.
