The premise seems to me to be that—as the society exactly is as it is
in BL—everyone has the
perception that guys normally go out with girls even though it never happens, there should still be regular shoujo manga (for certain protagonists to read and yearn for a "shoujo-manga-like love", of course)... that essentially everyone has a perception filter (except for the protagonist) that prevents them from seeing basic truths around them.
Which also explains why the protagonist can have our concepts of "normal" in a world in which our ideas should be totally foreign to him.
...Anyway, I'm sorry if chapters released in the meantime have made this so obvious that I am saying a dumb thing. oxo;
