She didn't do anything. This is pretty much all his fault. And not even in a way where you could argue that he doesn't know what he did. Sure he didn't know she overheard him telling his friends he was going to turn her down, but she did the "it was just a joke" thing to let him off the hook and he shouldn't have cared because he was already going to reject her. So he doesn't get to pretend that he's the hurt party because he ultimately lost nothing except control of the situation because she took initiative.

I didn't have a problem with the protagonist before this but this little mini arc makes him look like a dithering, conceited douche.

Ok I see a lot of people saying mc is spinless but i disagree. He is allowed to not a 100% certainty when it comes to accepting a confession. just because she confessed to him, doesn't mean he has the answer on the spot. He said inside he was ecstatic, that does not imply he was going to reject her, he was just wasn't sure what he wanted to do. it'd be awkward if everyone was pressuring you to just go out with a girl but you weren't fully sure of your own feelings. She is an asshole for lying to him.Yea it sucks that She heard that he didn't feel like they were a good fit, but to turn it around and tell him it was dare to confess to him was a dick move. She would rather put him down and lie to him rather taking a honest response, even if it was a honest reject.
