Guildmaster is pretty cool
Eh, nah.

Guildmaster was totally cool with the two scumbag guys being scumbags and stepped in to protect them from Gil. And then he resorted to lethal force when he realized Gil could keep up with him.

He only changed his tune because Gil folded him like laundry, and is obviously too valuable and too dangerous to piss off.

I'm reading the Guildmaster more as "crooked cop that can read the room."

But he's probably supposed to be cool, so I don't expect him to self-destruct by backstabbing Gil.

Ah yes, the "we're going to treat this character like shit because we can" to "holy shit this guy's so strong and cool and awesome and cool, and we're actually good guys all along, you just had to do something really obnoxiously out of the way to prove yourself to us because yeah" pipeline. They were being loud drunken buffoons, but instead of just asking the people around them if they were being loud drunks or even just thinking about it for a second, the guild master immediately went to "these comically thuggish characters said you were mean to them so get out, because I'm big and strong, or you can try to fight me which is totally not a thinly veiled threat that I'll beat you up if you oppose me". I can tell just from this chapter that this isn't going to be a story to any meaningful capacity, it's going to be power fantasy slop where the main character is incapable of losing, everyone else is blander than unseasoned boiled chicken, and none of the situations make sense besides giving the MC the opportunity to look "cool" for a second.

He did everything she said not to do and it all ended up working out just fine. In fact, you could even say his way got the best possible outcome.

The reason why this is almost an obligatory trope at this point is because it mirrors bullying in japanese schools/workplaces, and being accepted is the power fantasy. It's about social vindication.

It’s a cathartic loop: Social Exclusion → Public Humiliation → Display of Competence → Universal Acceptance.
