So I have been self studying Japanese and I was wondering how you learned the language? There is a lot of self study material and I have access to some of it, though if you don't mind I'd appreciate your recommendation.
I've found that the genki elementary japanese textbooks were pretty good to start off and build a base, but take that with a grain of salt as I didn't really try any other textbooks lol. Though aside from the textbook I think as a first step it's best to become 100% familiar with hiragana and katakana and some basic particles (は, が, と, etc).
After that I've just been consuming a ton of japanese content (preferably with subtitles) and just immersing yourself in it while actively paying attention to the structure of it. I've also been using flash
cards on an app called shirabe jisho every day to go through like ~20 kanji everyday.
It's currently been a year since I've started learning the language and I think I can understand a good chunk of spoken japanese, but I've actually been to japan to visit cousins and speaking is a whole other beast lol.
in the end it just takes a lot of time and using a variety of material (imo). It might be tedious but it feels super rewarding, especially when you can start to understand japanese without subtitles in anime and stuff like that. I might not be the best person to ask about this in the first place but there's my 2 cents if you want it - good luck!
