In english, it'd be like...
"Puppeteer Virus" devolving into "Pupter"

Yeah, though that's not quite what I'd focus on. Not exclusively anyway. Which is why I'm wondering how it got written down.
傀儡 is the puppet one 界雷 is the storm one, but if it was perhaps written 界儡 you'd have a made up word using components that mean "World's Defeat".
