There are a lot of things characters in manga do that aren't normal. Quite frequently, that's the point. And that's only talking about standard high school stories, not supernatural ones.

That said, it may or may not be normal to talk about it, but considering the format of the story, this is a bit excessive in terms of focus. Compared to what's "normal", not to what makes for a cute story.
