They most likely just think anybody that actively participating in the fight will be share the xp.
Even in nobles case, the mercenaries usually will leave the target half dead for the noble to have the last hit, so they can be technically counted as a participation.

As far as we know, only the MC has the display skill, lastiara (the crazy girl from chap 1) only has a lesser version of it (consodering she can't see skill), and dia (who is basically the second coming of Jesus Christ in that world) can't see status at all. So it's must be really rare. The priests have some way to determine someone's level, but I don't think they can see the exact accumulated exp to level up.
