I like how Iruma is already the Demon King in Azz's mind.

He's had that view since they took royal one. He saw Iruma on that throne and knew right then

maybe, or maybe not, but it's an interesting possibility. Opera has 2 pairs of ears, that's true, but an interesting thing is we haven't seen any of the many ears with less than 3 pairs of ears, even in that large scale panel where we saw the lot of many ears come out of hiding from around the room who had simplified designs, all of them had at least 3 ears (I checked), the fake ears they give visitors are of 2 pairs of ears to fit in, to give them a total of 3 pairs visually.

I think that's something interesting to think about with Opera, maybe they are half many-ears and then another tribe of demons? because Opera also differs that they are a very high rank security demon who is super strong, and it's not like the many ears can't be strong (I bet we will see that in this arc which seems to be going in the direction of showing the true potential of some of them) but it's interesting Opera doesn't fit any of the things we have been told here about the many-ears and their social position.

That moment at the end with Azz really felt similar to the interactions between the last Demon king and his respective right hand.

Az can be really tunnel visioned, the goal of the exam is to do something good for the demon world, and Mephisto wants that good to be creating a place where the oppressed many ears can thrive, and eventually gain dignity and pride from. He seems to have just focused on make "Iruma the king" part and disregarded the whole rationale for the scheme.
If he thought for a minute about it, he'd realise that making Iruma the ruler of the many ears contradicts the purpose of the exam, considering he's never gonna stay longer than a few months and leave a massive power vacuum the moment he goes back to being a school student something which can easily doom a fledgling settlement with no established institutions. The only sustainable option in the long term here is to make the many ears create their own government, that is play the kingmaker.

Also I like how Iruma approached this differently by realising that him being the king would just make him another strong master/patron of the many ears whom they're submissive towards out of fear and a desire for protection, thereby preventing them from actually forming the consciousness to assert their own independence.

Iruma made the Opera comparison and that does fit (serving anothrr because its something you want to do and where you're still trusted and treated with respect) but they also parallel Iruma before he came to the Demon World.

I suppose that’s true although the manga does a pretty good job of glazing him on its own

This chapter shows a fragility in Alice's way of thinking... he is simple-minded, nothing new, he has been like that since his first appearance, but here... it was on full throttle.

It's pretty interesting to see Azz in this light. It's kind of unsettling, but we knew it'd come up eventually. Azz was raised on etiquette, is known for being stuck in his ways, and dedicates his entire being to serve his master. It makes sense it's difficult for him and the many ears to imagine a world where you don't live under the thumb of another since that's how their world has always been. We're always being shown how the Netherworld revolves around strength and greed...
