All this talk of Tanabata made me think of this:

The legend of Orihime and Hikoboshi being very relevant here.

A eight year summer vacation. You'll have to travel a lot Nee-san to keep your summer vibes

[coyote_vdb]

I can kinda guess based of context, so all these characters got childhood friend zoned?

They got stuck in a time loop, repeating the last week of summer break. The Protagonist (not pictured) realises it after a while. The girl on the far left was aware of it the entire time.

[HunterCO]

I could use an 8 year paid vacation

Ah, thanks for informing me! Thought each character was from a different series who got stuck in their relationship. A monkey paws situation for sure, and I guess they were stuck after all lol. I copied your spoiler tag hopefully its done right

May this legend never be forgotten, I think it adding up to "8" years was letting us know

I didn't realise tanabata wishes had a minimum age limit. An interesting detail to learn.
