But GM is daughter of duke, GD is originally a low ranking rural noble (now duke since marrying into his wife's title). And Anna is a commoner. So if AM were GD's sibling then she would have been low ranking nobility, rather than a commoner.

What society has rules that nobles can't meet commoners? Sure, reduced contact might well happen, but that's not the same as "contact not allowed".
