maybe he(most of ppl) are afraid throwing away the safe option and taking a risk.
like if we reject the girl who like us now and try for main girl and in reality the main girl didnt like us romantically, what now? u ended up no gf and awkward friend.
not to mention if the guy never had any gf and truly longing for romantic partner for years.
