Honestly, temper your expectations because the translation of it isn't that good.
There's a few people in our discord with PTSD because of it.
You might or might not notice it if you don't compare it with the original Japanese.

Honestly, Jinshi should probably just get Rakan to help immediately. He's a weirdo, but just like his daughter, he's good at what he does.
Maomao's whole family, present and future, in one room. And one of two people Rakan respects. Well, not exactly. One of the two he respects the most.
If Rakan bows down and requests the army, I think there's a good reason to consider it.
Especially if you get Rakan involved.
Maomao knows what's coming.
Yeah, seeing Rakan actually show so much respect is a bit of a break in character.

As surprising it to see it physically, on the other hand, it makes sense if you consider that Luomen was the one who taught Rakan how to maneuver with his facial blindness, encouraged his intelligence and basically was his father figure. In that sense, Rakan would've considered to be Luomen's "Son" which can happen in Chinese family dynamics.

The way Rakan fumbles before Luomen lol; his respect for him is adorable. Rahan mitigating the situation and Gao Shun chuckling in the back is also funny. And ofc Maomao's obsession taking priority over her situation.
Things aren't looking good for the innocent people who'll probably become victims of this scheme :/ I do wonder tho why take so much of a risk? I guess it would've all worked if it wasn't for Maomao though with how elaborate and cunning their plans were. It all seemed disconnected at a glance.

I remember reading these scene in the fan-translated novel but seeing it like this does put it into perspective. Also Luomen appearing at the right time made me giddy for some reason 😂But also seeing Maomao just being excitedly obsessed with the medical knowledge is just ridiculous sometimes (in a good way)

Well you also have to consider we're the audience so we know things and how they connect in a linear formation, so it might seem disconnected with all the 4th wall knowledge we have.
Based on what we've seen so far, based on general history, the people who are in charge and have power believe they should be the rightful rulers, and based on the hints, they believe they have the ancestry like the first Empress.
as for the endangerment to innocent people, well, its not unusual to discard people, esp those beneath them, if they can get what they want since that's "their place"

Oh, do you mean disconnected to us the 4th wall audience? I meant that everything probably seemed disconnected for the characters in the story until Maomao started pointing things out. I do agree that it does seem disconnected for us.
True, it's a really accurate albeit sad picture of reality. It's why I like the series anyway; the realism and logic in it make it interesting and fun to keep up with.

Rakan clearly has a major weakness for the people he loves and Luomen is the one that helped him find his way in life despite his disability. Learning to identify people as game pieces was a crucial step forward for him.
