wait so the term for child in jaapanese is "shi"? isn't shi also used for "four"? man japanese and chinese really like to have similiar sounding word (then again my mother tounge also have really weird one)

it's similar because the japanese word kanji literally means "chinese characters" because kanji is chinese, though japan has invented a moderate amount of their own japanese kanji that is not based on a chinese character, most kanji they use is still chinese. there is something called onyomi and kunyomi which is the chinese reading and the more japanese-sounding reading for each character and characters usually have 2+ onyomi and kunyomi readings. when a kanji is paired with another kanji the onyomi reading is usually used, which makes child 子 read as shi in that word rather than ko.
