Yuu doesn't really have much to apologize for (although should probably at least give an explanation) but seeing as it seems that Yami initiated the kiss and KNEW about Hikari's feelings for Yuu her friendship is likely about to get completely COOKED with Yami like yeah Hikari is basically a saint but seeing that fucking DESTROYED Hikari

The author could genuinely be setting up really good potential character development if he let's Yami see what this did to her best friend and hom much it hurt her but if she feels no guilt or tries to act innocent? Then she really is the complete piece of shit people make her out to be

i always believe that whatever happen in this manga, the one thing that is certain is the hikari/yami friendship will be safe. I know hikari was crushed by what happen but she forgive yami for that god awful prank (that is infinitely worse) couple of chapters ago, if yami is genuinely feel sorry for what she had done hikari can def forgive yami for this. That and also the extra chapter 18.5 makes me think that the friendship will survive this shitstorm

That you could take him to trial for? Very little. But he's made us (Hikari and the readers) feel all sorts of things, most of them bad, and has thus incurred a debt to be repaid in blood.

Seriously, though, for me it's mostly Shit Vibes coming from him in this chapter and the fact that he completely failed to mention his relationship with Yami to Hikari. Like, we don't know what their relationship is like, and maybe it really is one of those "we hang out with each other because it's easy to fall into this comfortable groove and we can forget the rest of our real lives and relax and not talk about what's stressing us out" kind of deals.

But my guilty-until-proven-innocent of hiding a relationship from a female friend is that he doesn't want it to hurt his chances with her, and by the time he's no longer into Hikari (IF he's ever no longer into her,) the ship has kinda sailed and it's awkward to go "Hey, funny story about my doomed whirlwind romance with your senpai..." It's just that it's the kind of thing where there's no way Yami wasn't the most important thing happening in his life at that time, and when you're that in love, it takes a superhuman effort to not make it the only thing you talk about. Even Yami was sick of hearing about Hikari from him, so the fact that it didn't go the other way is kinda eh. Either way, though, it's fundamentally about misrepresenting himself to Hikari, and I expect better of him. As far as we know, Hikari wouldn't do him like that.

Edit: Like, seriously, huge credit to Yom for subtly making it such that Yuu's relatively innocent-seeming words and behaviors during just a few panels give me such fucked vibes of "oh I see you, you piece of crap."

I mean, dissapearing for hours and not being upfront? That's not precisely a good start. I know what he has done isn't terrible and we still need to know what happened in those hours, that's why I said was half foot on the boat that he hasn't do anything wrong.

Again, is not like he is a terrible person or anything for what we have been shown, but given what this story is about and who writes it, I wouldn't bet on him being a saint or she not getting involved. And that's sad, I'd like her to be free of this ball of toxicity.

Similar vein: I can't imagine Hikari having stuck around this long. It indirectly reminds me of that awful feeling of being 15 and not free to leave a situation you hate being stuck in. Whether it's her determination to confess (oh sweetie, no, don't) after the dance, or not wanting the shame of disappearing, or just being stuck because of the storm outside, there must be some powerful forces opposing the basic human survival instinct to just flee.

Ayami, as we know, gives nary an eff about walking home in the rain when she has the sads.
