Also I guess the purpose of the fight here is actually to let the reader know that a character having the gates doesn't curbstomp a person without (which I guess follows the rules of "the true winner is who the authour chooses")

The only older guy that won was Hanzo, and even then it had to be by ring-out (and Kojiro didn't even die).
I'm holding on to a sliver of hope, but the author's obvious preferences keep staring me in the face. And I hate it.

Disregarding whoever win this fight, I genuinely don't know what people are smoking saying they're "tired of seeing genius wins" and whatnot. Since the inception of shonen manga one of the literal pillar of shonen manga in general and shonen jump in particular is "hard work and guts". Like, that's genuinely one of the motto of shonen jump and manga have been rejected from shonen jump by not having enough "hard work and guts". I'm not saying all manga are like that, or all manga are shonen, or all manga are shonen jump, but if you want to say "x always wins" by sheer percentage it should always be "hard works and guts".

My favorite parallel in this manga is still Old Man Yaoi vs Twink Yaoi, but Chosen by Gods vs Indomitable Human Spirit is a close second for me

Talent does open possibilities... quick learning, unexpected ideas, new ways, all of those need an uncommon insight... but a life dedicated to making that way brings equally unquestionable strength.

Every "stone" that Jinsuke piled is something he purposely chose, he knows and understands every one of them, their weight, their form, their contours... each detail a mark ingrained upon his soul, they are a mighty pillar.

I don't want to mean that pure talent is bad, that is stupid... but Inshun doesn't understand the core of his talent, he simply trusts it will lead him, but as much as that gives strength... it is fragile too, it is one misstep to a fall that may not have return.
