The prince already handled having made a mistake (using excessive force) by being willing to recognize his error and provide compensation. So, it's not that he can't handle recognizing an error. And his error here is understandable -- there is no known prior instance of healing a whole hand.

Best solution is: 1) accurate reporting to the prince that the hand was indeed healed; 2) prince then negotiates with Amelia and Amelia's family regarding the ending of the betrothal. Most likely they present the end of betrothal as either his decision or as a mutual decision. (Keep in mind that this is a political marriage, so personal feelings are pretty much irrelevant.)

If the prince can't handle this, then the prince is not fit to rule. (Except as a figurehead.)

What the head steward is doing is not only unnecessary, it's making the problem much worse. If the prince is too headstrong and has difficulties with the situation, then the steward should help him through it. Instead he's set it up as a high likelihood of a much greater problem.

The problem here is not 'nobility', but rather incompetent nobility.
(I'm including the steward as part of the incompetence.)

Oh this is weirdly similar to a conversation I'm having on the ascendance of a bookworm subreddit, but yeah, i agree. The prince is being babied by his steward, who's just reinforcing his bad habits.

The prince is a shallow manchild who basically falls apart when faced with the possibility that he might not be perfect, and making him work on that would be great for him and the kingdom. Actually, if you think about it, the steward might've literally just doomed the kingdom. The prince is supposed to get fixed by the heroine, but because mc changed up the story, that ain't happening, so he's just gonna keep spiraling

Honestly, it might already be too late. What exactly are they going to tell the prince here? He clearly saw her hand get blown off and then saw it be normal. Even if that was a trick, what's the point of revealing it right away and then getting mad when he gets mad about it? Best case is they try to convince him that this was all a ruse by the villainess to end her engagement, but if he's willing to buy that bs then he has no right being king

We can't discard the possibility that this could be a classic trick to take over the Kingdom.
Make the future ruler incompetent and dependant of his servants to show him how things are.
That way, they can just establish whatever vision of the world they want for him, and guide him to make the decisions they want.
It's quite an old trick with monarchies.
